taking a break from WoW

yes im letting the shaman bench for a while. PVP has burnt me out.. well the grind has, and the fact that the time ive put in will mean nothing with the Xpac. Whats the point of grinding to HWL if when i get it, there wont be ranks with the expansion. Gear? thats going to be obsolete at 70. Ive been soaking up time with other games.. homeworld 2, sim city 4, heh. I just cant bear to even think about WoW right now, as the only thing that comes to mind is fucking WSG and having to plant in it for excessive hours a day resulting in dry sensitive eyes and constant headaches, only to have the reward for the sacrifice fucking..extradited (spelling?) in the coming months. If only the diablo 2 team that broke away from blizzard and made guild wars didnt rush that shit id have a better game to fall on. 20 level cap. wtf is that. I played it before WoW and id have to say id prefer playing it over wow if the level cap wasnt so damn low. Of course some battlefield 23562 or huxley would be nice too. Wouldnt mind being strapped to a big ass gun killing shit. anyways enough ranting my titanquest demo is done downloading

But...
There are rumors of scaling HWL weaps up to 70.
I dunno, it sounds like there will still be ranks. It also sounds like it will be a lot easier to get these ranks, since it's going to be a straight-up grind. It's already a lot easier to get honor since the Horde win 80% of the ABs on cross server.
It's sort of a shame on the timing. If things had remained as they were, this week Night was in line to be #2 honor quota (Angst made it, abdour is up next), and Stu and I are starting to advance up the ranks.

WoW has been kinda getting boring for me too. Its either play my main and mostly watch health bars go up and down, or play alts which are still rather low level. That, and my 360 has my attention atm. I've never been a big fan of grinding, and it seems that's all there is to do anymore.

I don't want to start a flame war... just a good natured discussion.
As I see it, grinding is the inherent problem with WoW. Problem from a few perspectives. First, it's the only way you can get to the good stuff. I find this detrimental to a game that doesn't allow your character to rely on a lot of skill. My argument is that if I go into battle, I want to be able to determine my outcome based on pure skill and not a constant whack, whack, whack, whack or the fact that my character is level 7, 10 or 15. WTF is that all about? How is that fun? Now some of you are thinnking you have to do the same thing in PS to get better weapons, certs, implants and stuff. That's true, but I can also get through VR a lot faster and choose certain certifications to play smarter and make a considerable contribution. Also, if go into battle and I lose by 10 health because I didn't know to go topside and get behind a jackhammer and I realize that afterwards, I can make that adjustment and probably win next time without having to level up a bit and get a new weapon or shield. Second, grinding is the lure to keep you paying and playing. How many of you have dropped something you like/need/used to do in order to level up? C'mon.... be honest... have you skipped out on a class or called out of work to level up? Canceled a trip or night out? If you have more than once or twice, you're addicted and WoW thanks you. Third, it's boring. The only thing I enjoyed about playing my character during the 10 day trial was hanging out with you guys in TS again (*sniff* *sniff*). Gimme a hug?
Now all of that being said, if you enjoy it and you're not addicted like a lot of RPG players are then I'm very happy for you. I think I know, however, that a lot of you are FPS players by nature and that's why you are getting bored. PS always welcomes you back and if that's not in the cards, get BF2 or COD2. Phazis and dracneir play BF2 pretty often and if we get enough, we can start up the Wolverine BF2 clan.
Who wants to be the BF2 game leader? Say aye!

The other thing that's good about PS is that when you start at BR4 or 5 (after VR) you can immediately squad up and run with people who are BR25/CR5 - it doesn't matter, whereas in WoW if your friend just starts, there is no real way to game with them unless you roll an alt (like I did with Hawkes when he played). EQ2 has a mentoring system that makes it easier, (when you mentor someone you become their level, so you can help them with thier quests etc.

I make it a point to NOT do things like that. I have NEVER called off work to play WoW, and if there is something better to do (Ie go get some Beers), I don't choose wow over it. Now, I have stayed home a night here or there because I don't feel like getting shitfaced, but that isn't so I can just play WoW the entire time.

It was nice having you in TS again, I really can't wait till we get a game where we are all united again under one banner. And yeah, MMORPGs aren't for everyone. Personally, I think you would have hated being a priest. You think clicking spells over and over again are boring, wait till you're healing a group where you just sit in the back and watch health meters go up and down (thats that healers do). I think you would have liked a rogue better (CLOAKER) But overall WoW probably isn't for you.

I'd say hold off on getting into BF2 only because of 2142, its coming out shortly and its going to kick ass!
I have been meaning to come back into PS to play more, say a couple nights a week. Xbox 360 is slowly taking my WoW addiction away with the new flavor of the month, Dead Rising. Slaughtering zombies will get old eventually I'm sure. I've been thinking about designating a PS day, like Tuesday or something, since I rarely go out tuesday night and WoW is kinda slow.

Night,
Are you going to play WoW again when the expansion comes out?
Brent,
If you don't like your character, you could always roll a toon you think you would want to play and roll with JT, Red, and the other recent arrivals.
Stu,
I'm going to grind honor as hard as I can. I get something I can use every Rank I achieve, so I think I'll get as much of it as possible before the expansion.
I'll have more thoughts, but I need to go watch the Steelers in the "dress rehearsal" preseason game.

Well.....I'm a seasoned MMORPG player, as well as FPS player. In ANY RPG theres grinding. Its one of the aspects of the game you have to deal with. No matter which one, its there.
And yeah, I've skipped out on some stuff to play WOW, but I did the same with PS, AO, SWG...COH, and countless betas. Why I do it with wow is to keep me from spending money that I dont have at the moment. (not that I feel I have to explain myself, but just so you know where I sit.)
And....ps has a grind too. It's called BEP/CEP. Any time you have to get experience points to ...level a skill...get another certification point, its a grind. Just different grinds is all.
I was and still am a big fan of PS. Great game that lost it somewhere around the one millionth time I went to Cery to recap one of the bases that the VS were trying to take. Or got almost sanced day after day. For me...although now I'm doing the same thing every day when I log in (pvp), Planetside became the same thing over and over and over and over. Take this base which looks just like the other base we just took, on a different continent (or planet or whatever). Take a few hours to take a continent, go to sleep, get back on the next day...and rinse and repeat.
Personally I need more depth to a game. And, while PS is fun in short stints, it just lacks that depth. I like story, and PS has almost none. Now, at level 60 doing the "end game" pvp stuff, there really isnt a story either anymore, but leveling up, there was tons upon tons.
I've said it before and I'll continue to believe it. WOW wasnt the game I wanted to go to. Faries and elves arent really my thing. I like Tanks and shit that blows up. But until that game comes along, I have to do what I think is fun, and keeps me interested. So far, WOW has kept me into it for a long time.
My biggest problem with the game is...where do we go now? We had 4 people on regular like, and although we didnt team together much...well...3 of us did
now theres really only me and Ch0wdah on most nights. Do we stay hardcore to the Wolverine name? Or try to join up with an end game raiding / pvp guild? Me and Ch0w talked about it a bit tonight but I'm really tired so I had to log out early. We could try to get into another guild, but that would mean bowing to their rules (meh). Or we could try to recruit and make promises that we are trying to turn ourselves into an end game type guild.
With 2 60's that play regular. Neither one being a Tank or a Healer. So, we've got some decisions to make.
But one thing for sure, I may pop by PS every now and again, but I sure cant go back to it like I used to. I liked playing but it just got to be too monotinous. Same thing every day.
And to be honest I'm so afraid of being totally disappointed with Tabula Rasa and Huxley....Man it would bite if those two sucked, they seem to be what I'm looking for in a game, sci fi fps rpg...

I've been trying to do that with both my Warlock toon and even trying my hunter toon again (got mah bear pet). But grinding up the levels doing all the quests over again is kinda turning me off to that.
Really, what would keep me in the game is doing more instances.. Which is another hard factor because we run instances so late, like 11-11:30, by the time we get there and get settled, I have half an hour to go till bedtime (or at least, what SHOULD be bedtime). It's not really something I should be doing, and while I understand its not possible to run it any earlier, its just one of those unfortunate things that's turning me off to the game

Sure its possible to run it earlier, you dont have to wait for me if you don't want. I know my work schedule sucks, but nothing I can do about that for now. Run the instances, I dont mind if I miss out. Its kinda why I'm into the pvp thing, its the only way i'll get really good gear for now to be honest. (small guild, not alot of time to run instances and pug's suck).

I'll rephrase: Its hard to run instances with the people I want to run them with because of schedule differences.
And I understand there is nothing you can do about your work schedule, as there is nothing I can do about mine, it happens.

Yeah but the grind is much more user interactive. You can't walk up to someone in PS and just expect to stand there letting the software do the whacking. You need a higher level of skill to attain the next level.

But PS has evolved over time. While most of us still wish for some of the toys they spoke about at Fan Faire, we do have a new mossie (Wasp), we have some newer faces (and some returning old), and tactics are always an interesting discussion.

You need to try BF2, BF2142, COD2, etc for that kind of stuff if PS has lost its' allure. There are some really good clans out there and we are always looking to expand into other games.

Same type of thing with PS. We lost a lot of good people to WoW or other games or just RL in general. We;ve never been a spam recruiting outfit, but if you want to keep consistent numbers (at least a squad would be nice), then you need to advertise.

That's why I switch things up. I've been cloaking for a long time now and I still love it. I even got Apone to enjoy it and now there are times when the whole squad is cloaking. It's truly a lot of fun to be in the middle of a battle and no one know you are there and then boom! Hawkes boomers 3-4 NC not knowing what happened (like the other night!). Hell, spec ops is where we came from.

Hey it is what it is. Something will come out... whether it's TR or Huxley or something not even mentioned yet. We have enough MMORPGs though.... we need more MMOFPSs.
