Actually got around to trying this out with Draco on Sunday, and this shit is a blast. I thought it would be lame since it was browser, and the intro seemed disinteresting, but doing a little investigating and playing, come to find out its pretty damn awesome.
You got different tiers of ships you can choose to pilot, and if you get enough merits, you can even ask to use the Pegasus for an hour (or a Baystar if you are Cylon) to rape people.

The various ships can be custom outfitted to your design. You can have all gun slots, or missles on your craft etc. for weapon slots. Beyond that you have other slots such as engines and electronics, which can be outfitted with various things; resource scanners, autopilot, enhanced radar.
These slots will increase/decrease in quantity pending your ship -
Just as well with the various ships, you can outfit them to perform specific roles, such as equipping all missiles to be effective vs larger ships, or smaller gun turrets to deter small strike craft.
