I have always believed medal count was the way to decide who wins. You can always attach a point value, like gold=3, silver=2, bronze=1. Either way we would have won, canada's only thing was most golds so they spammed that. If we had most golds and they had medal count it would be the other way of spam. At the end of the day I am proud US set a new all time record for most medals in one winter. And would gladly pick living in US over Canada, because well, in a true story, if Canada just disappeared, it would take a couple weeks for anyone in the world to figure it out. ./rant

So go US in the World CUP! Canada didn't qualify.

Just as a side note:

Tonight the Buffalo Sabres played the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Pittsburgh won, but Ryan Miller got more applause when he was introduced than Sidney Crosby.  Oh....for non hockey type fans.  The game was in Pittsburgh, and Crosby plays for Pittsburgh.

Even though Buffalo lost the game.  I would consider this a win.  Because we dislike Crosby.

Sports are a stupid way to express your patriotism.  Besides, the US Olympic team is basically a denial of service attack on the rest of the world.  We win more medals because we throw more people at it than anyone else.  To prove it, I've re-ordered the top 10 countries (most total medals) based on the percentage of their total medals won vs. total athletes sent.

1.) 30.4% - Korea
2.) 23.0% - Norway
3.) 20.2% - Austria
4.) 19.7% - Germany
5.) 17.2% - United States
6.) 12.8% - Canada
7.) 12.2% - China
8.) 10.2% - Sweden
9.) 10.2% - France
10.) 8.4% - Russia

Then again, I'm just combining fact with reason, so what the fuck do I know.  AMERICA MOTHERFUCKERS!  SUCK IT!

Should I fax those numbers to you Night, or is your government-provided internet still working in your FEMA trailer?


Since I'm not devoid of intellectual honesty like some people here, I will concede that these percentages are slightly skewed.  This is because the medal count only indicates 1 medal where multiple actual medals would have been awarded to multiple actual athletes such as in hockey, bobsledding, team downhill anal fisting, etc., which lowers the percentage of those countries with such victories in my calculations.  Additionally, some individual athletes won more than 1 medal which skews the numbers up for those countries since fewer of the athletes were doing more of the winning. To go through the medal count for each country and determine the raw medal numbers and account for multiple medal winners would require me to care more than I do.  Since we have competing biases, I'll call the numbers "close enough" and carry on with my life.  At the end of the day, my point remains the same and Nightstalker remains stupid.

That is an interesting method to look at, most people just spam, "well US has 10 times the population of canada so it should have 10 times the medals". I like the idea of looking at how many were sent. The flaw though is that US sends so many because we support so many sports.

It was interesting during the olympics they would go into detail on athletes during downtime, and the majority train in the US. Even most of the Canadians because the weather year round is more useable then any of canada's weather year round.

I think austraila does pretty good considering we have no winter...well we do have winter, but its not like it snows. I mean we get snow, but only on some mountains in the southern states. PLUS our winter olymipans get diddly squat from the australian olympic  commitee to fund training etc.
