skip the guard. It was hard for me to relate to guys that had never been active duty. It actually cause a lot of problems for me when I was deployed with the National Guard to Iraq.. They just don't seem to have the same mentality.

Yeah I think the issue with the mentality there being that they probably didnt expect to be deployed outside the country. Whereas people enlisting active services know full well they could be deployed. I would imaging the rhetoric among the Guardsmen was something of disdain, and resentment for being deployed. I'm thinking about going military myself, probably shoot for Marines if I can and get in that last surge. Though I have to get back in order physically, and then I have to face the possible age barrier which is borderline now. I'll be 31 in April, so that's something I have to face. Though I think the recruiters could be coaxed, seeing as there's a quota to fill for deployment in Afghanistan.

Actually, it was a problem before the two years before we deployed as well. It's hard to explain.. on active duty i would give a soldier an order and it was "Roger that, Sergeant" in the guard it's more like, "you got it dude" .... had to be there.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna skip all of that Weekend Warrior crap. I like being able ot tella Soldier to do something, and it gets done with respect. My wife thinks that I'm too hard on Privates because I don't say "Please" after telling them to do something.
