Yeah man, here is a basic rundown.
This game is catered to a more casual gamer, meaning you only have a few hours a week to play. The quests are broken down into what are called "Guild Leve's." You are able to do 8 of these Leve's every 48 hours (though they are going to lessen that cool down soon). The Leve's are meant to be as easy or difficult as you have the party for, and when you initiate it you choose the difficulty. Once you're done with the Leve's you're left with gathering mats, exporing, or farming mobs. If you have a party however, multiple people can pick up Leve's and you can do all of them with them greatly expanding the number of "quests" you can do.
There will be a lot of end game once we get there, at least if it's anything like FFXI was. Norega can chime in better here since he saw most of it. It will be perfectly doable in only a couple of nights a week. The raid encounters are much more difficult than WoW but take far less time to complete depending on what you're doing. Imagine world Bosses.
There aren't really traditional quests in the game. you won't find anyone with "?" over their heads. Most of the quests are story based so you speak to NPC's and you happen upon one that tells a story. They do have rewards, mostly monitary, but they do tell a good story which is one of the shining points of the game to me.
People are friendly and I've had no problem getting a group, in either this one or FFXI.
