I filled out my Beta application.
http://entry.ffxiv.com/

Still no word exactly when beta will start, but still saying it will be at least 4 months in beta, and still to release late 2010. PC beta will come before PS3. I am looking forward to FFXIII in March.

I feel like I must share my pride in the nerdiest way. But sadly it is too late in the evening to run around outside in circles shouting about beating a video game.

Yes, I have beaten Final Fantasy XIII. I beat the final boss, and now can return to the open end area of the game where I can fight side bosses for quests. Total time on my file is 58 hours. The ending was pretty amazing, and would make Avatar jealous about the prettiness of the video. I am now ready for FF XIV.

I doubt it, but it's just supposed to help you recover faster from a K.O. so it would be usefull to throw on if you die.

Damn PS3 version not releasing at same time. Still hoping I make it into some beta, but might be screwed now if it makes me wait for the PS3 beta and not get the PC beta. Right now though kinda siding towards the new Starwars Old Republic.

Yeah, it really blew my mind that they are releasing for PS3 in March instead of this year. I'm hoping I get in the beta as well. It's a beast though, a LOT of people are having to replace PC's to play it.

Between Starcraft 2 and then this... good bye social life (what semblance of one there was to begin with).  I'm way in on this though.

So I got into the Beta this past weekend. I'm thoroughly impressed with the game so far. It is still apparent that it is in Beta, so there are several issues that need addressing right now but will be fixed prior to launch.

The game looks stunning and the two areas I've had access too so far are pretty sweet. The guild leave system is really nice and makes for really fast leveling for the most part. However, you will run through your own pretty quick so these are best done in a group so you can do one persons, then another, then another, etc... This basically means you can do a ton of guildleves which are the most gil and xp you can get. It's much faster than farming for sure.

So far I've tinkered with the following:

Marauder - Lvl 14
Blacksmith - Lvl 4
Fisherman - Lvl 3
Miner - Lvl 3
Botanist - Lvl 3

This is all in about 12 hours played time so far. The professions are amazing and frustrating at the same time. There really are very few instructions in game on how to do any of it. It's basically trial and error until you figure out what you're doing. Also, finding recipes hasn't been easy. In fact I have yet to find out where or how to find them without using google.

Overall though, they fixed most of what I didn't like about FFXI. I will absolutely be playing this on release.

No beta invite for me. However, mine might be for PS3 because I used that voucher.
