Video Game Withdrawal.

OK, so I think I have gotten this whole "work" thing well in hand. I have my own business, that is doing pretty good, it's long hours, but worth it in the end I think. I really haven't played a game in quite a while. If you had asked me a year ago I wouldn't think I would make it this long without one.
So...some nights while I am making a pizza, which is pretty mindless work most of the time, and particularly when it is quiet (maybe the radio is off or I am listening to the white noise of the fryer hood droning on), I will all of a sudden be thinking about somewhere in a game that I used to play. Have had flashbacks of WOW, Planetside, SWG, AO, and just yesterday Tabula Rasa (which I only played in beta for about a week or 2).
I think it maybe time to invest in a new rig and get to some (although limited) gaming.
I actually thought about reactivating my wow account just to grind a couple dailyies just to get it out of my system. Isn't that sad?

Mount and blade is coming out with an expansion soon which will have enhanced graphics, and hosted multiplayer sessions of 32 vs 32 iirc
I thought about after the current mod is done to perhaps go after a FPS element mod. Maybe a modern setting, or i've even considered a Planetside mod.
The community has made modern guns a viable option, and I could just as easily model Planetside weapons, and alter the ammunitions to be energy themed etc. Vehicles would be difficult with the exception of say the 4 wheeler models and maybe some new bikes. Though we may see some official tools soon which could circumvent such limits.
I've always had the vision that Planetside should be more urban themed. A Terran Republic soldier in Rexo breaking out a glass window on a 14th story floor and firing a MCG into a street filled with NC or VS.
The Mount and Blade engine has hitboxes, so thats always nice too.

Yeah I'm going to be getting the itch to play something again here soon as well. It's about time for a new game...one that isn't terrible. Fucking Planetside and WoW ruined MMOs for me because they were so good. I will only be able to play games that are at least as playable (+staying power) as them but with better graphics I'd hope. My default pick is to just re-sub WoW. If nothing else better is coming along in the RPG world, I'm doomed to continue my servitude to Blizzard.

I'm hitting 4200 dps on boss fights, and 5000 or so on aoe trash pretty easily. You should stay retired old man.

You know while we're on the topic of suggestions I can toss a game in
You might have heard of it, it's called
Wurm Online
. It's an MMO-style game.. think EVE but in the dark ages and with limited spellcasting. It's pretty cool. I guess the main premise is terraforming (you can change the world however you want given time and a shovel/pickaxe) but there's also just about every medieval craft, fighting (PVP and PVE), archery, all sorts of misc. trades and skills. It does have a super harsh starting climate but there are player assistants now and you can always hit me up too. Actually, anyone on Wurm is pretty friendly to newbies. It's an indy MMO and can always use more players.
It doesn't cost anything to play on the Golden Valley (newbie) server.. but to go to the Wild or Freedom server (premium) you have to pay 10 euros every 2 months.. which works out to like half of games like WoW per month.
It runs off of Java and it's free to play for as long as you want, I'd definitely suggest checking it out. Actually I'd suggest anyone play, I am on Wild server and my Blacklighter (HORDE of the Summoned.. hmm) village needs more people
Oh yeah and the graphics might look gay from the website, but it's not that bad in the game, there is a far view distance and reflections and so on. Here's some screenshots I have that do the game some justice:
This one is my village from close up, the dirt walls were below water level when we started, it took me and 5 other dedicated terraformers several months to get the walls to where they are now
This is on top a mountain a bit east of the village. Due to LOD it doesn't show all the terraforming we did but rather the map before we messed with it. Also shows the elevation in the game. The mountain I am on top of might be 1/4 as the highest peaks in Wurm, and yeah, you can summit those ones too.
