OK... this is pissing me off now

OK guys.  I have a PC I'm working on that has got me scratching my head.  My buddies daughter comes home from college and gets on his machine under her login and now he's getting all kinds of runtime errors and internet script errors.  I can't run Windows Update because I get the script errors.  I can't install IE8 because it keeps failing.  His Trend Micro is reporting an invalid software configuration, but i can't open the console because it must call some of the same routines to display it's text because it pops up errors.  Also, it won't load a lot of .aspx pages without erroring out.  For example, it will say done on the status bar in IE but with the yelow exclamation point saying there was an error.  When I get the error popup box, there isn't any information in it such as line number, file etc.

I'd check the event viewer and see what it says. 

But honestly, if it's windows and it's taking you more then 20 minutes to fix I'd just back up her data and re install.

yup.. and actually, if you reinstall, unless you Fdisk, her data will still be there.

is there a limewire icon on her desktop? i bet its viruses/spyware, you can try cleaning it all out - but i'd back up any data she wants and nuke it.

That's what I'm thinking, but I was hoping it was something simple I overlooked.  I just didn't want to have to go through that even though thrun is correct in regards to spending too much time with it.
