I really think McCain supporters are going to be pleasantly surprised with Obama's presidency.  At least I hope so.  We'll see.  AMERICA!

JT the first part applies to the huge majority Democrats now have in Congress and the Senate, and the fact that there is no check to that in the Presidency (veto power)

The second part applied to the naive view that the President can change anything. We'll see, if there was an opportunity for a President to change things now would be the time. The question is will they actually change things for the better. Or are they just going to redistribute wealth.

Also, for you Obama supporters, did you vote for "Change" or did you actually compare the candidates stances prior to voting. Just curious, since it seems to me, when I ask people what "Change" means, they are unable to define it.

I voted for a President that could truly change the way our country is perceived on the world stage.  Obama will be hugely popular among our allies and will likely make inroads with countries that we've traditionally not had great relations with.  I voted for a candidate that in my opinion would be best suited to change our foreign policies for the better (with new ideas that aren't that far fetched) and will regain the respect of the world.

It's never a guarantee, but if Obama makes it a shit-show we can very easily give control of Congress back to the Republicans in 2 years.  That's not a long time really, but if he just so happens to do a good job and is making progress...we can stick with him and hope that we can move forward even further.

If I may ask a question of the McCain supporters in return; How were you alright with some one as grossly inept as Sarah Palin on the ticket and did it ever make you question the judgment of McCain and his advisors when the picked her?

I for one am happy that Obama won.  He had a great campain and he is a very charismatic speaker.  He also has some decent ideas.

But, I don't see it as a big ray of hope and sunshine.  Honestly, I am willing to bet we are facing the same difficulties 4 years from now that we are facing today.  Unfortunately, in politics when someone says 'we need to work together to fix these issues', what a politian usually means is 'I am going to make a policy and everyone should agree with it'.  That, and a lot of his policies don't exactly seem to be going against the 'status quo', alot of them are ideas that have been brought up before.

But.. I also hope that he proves me wrong and all become rich and drive cars that run on dreams.

Honestly though, I'm really glad I could finally vote and pretend I alone made a difference (They just call Maine as Democrat, they don't have to count). Gotta say though, I'm entirely burnt out of politics for a while. I'm anxious to see where Obama will take us. I know the president can't make any giant changes in 4 years, but they can at least make a change in direction that will be felt in 6-10 years.

I also will enjoy the fact that, now that a black guy is in office, people can't really generalize every white person as racist anymore (geriatric people and rednecks are still free game, though)

I don't think they thought the Palin choice all the way through, but I don't think it was the worst choice anyone could have made. I'm not entirely opposed to her religious views though, so that's not really as much of a factor for me as it is for some of you. Her experience isn't a real issue for me, she has experience, though maybe not as much as some would like.

I liked mccain, and i initially liked palin, but she ended up looking like a dumbass and not in a media spin way either. All by herself. That didnt look good for the ticket and didnt look like a thought out choice by McCain, not something you want your president doing- making bad choices like that.

Now if Romney or Huckabee were picked for VP, i think we would have seen a much closer race. but whatever, i think Obama will do a good job.

I was saying the entire time that I think Huckabee would have made a much better VP pick. He has a good amount of experience, has a LOT of charisma and knows how to use it, and still has the good conservative views that the Republicans can identify with. Palin was a good shock pick for about a week or two, but after that we kinda bit it hard. Too bad McCain couldn't repick without looking even weaker.
