A whole lot of stupid had to come together (police, parents, herself, police again) to allow that situation to turn out as it did.

I particularly like the part where she had made reasonably sized purchases of pot and then they send her out to buy coke, 1500 hits of ecstasy and a gun -- no drug dealer would be suspicious of that request.

Hopefully people will learn something from this.

Certainly sucks that she's dead, but from what I heard she made all of her own chioces, up to and including following those two guys away from the designated deal spot, which ultimately separated her from her "handler." Just sucks she chose to risk her own life instead of doing jail time. The gamble didn't pay off.

Ya, I really don't get how they thought a 23 year old with a quarter pound of weed and half a dozen pills was fit to be invloved in that sort of thing.  There's plenty of hosues on campus where you'd find more then that in the junk drawer.

The problem that i have with it is that the cops are supposed to be protecting us, not using as bait for bigger fish.  Have you ever dealt with a 23 year old girl that goes to hippy festivals?  Who could have possibly thought it was a good idea to involve her in a life and death situation that would require sound decision making.

To me, the police made a judgment error in even considering her as a CI. The people she was asked to sting probably knew she may be followed. They led her away and the police should have known that would happen. IMO they took advantage of her.

I agree that the police shouldn't have used her. She was certainly not the person for that particular job. But she did say yes to them when they asked her to. Now, whether or not she was threatened isn't known. From what we do know, she was offered jail time or C.I. and she took C.I.

QFE. To think that something as harmless (yes I say harmless, as harmless as cigarettes and alcohol, both legal) as pot turned into a girl getting murdered...

I've seen this report before, and the police officer's attitude about it all really grinds my gears. "Well, in hindsight, yes, we should have let them know." we're not talking about giving someone a ticket when they were only doing 2 miles over. He obviously doesn't give a shit about her cause she's "just another criminal". Most cops don't, which is sad.

And to toss a 23 year old pothead into a ring with 2 cocaine dealers and guns with no training, tapping her (at that level, dealers usually do a minor frisk), and not even follow her when she moved away from the park is scary. Do you think they would have done that with one of their own? Of course not.

So many reasons keep stacking up for why marijuana laws should change, with the biggest reason that the majority public don't agree with such harsh penalties, yet the police don't listen, laws aren't changed, people get screwed.

That's where I am coming from on this to, we're talking about recreational drug user getting thrown in with the big dogs.  It just seems like such a horrid idea. And yes, I consider a 1/4lb of marijuana recreational.   That's a freeze bag full tops.  When I was in high school my jack ass friends and I probably smoked that in about a week.

They didn't communicate what they were doing to the proper channels in their department, ran it half assed and got some dumb hippy broad killed because of it.  For what? An un winnable war against or own populace? 

She was obviously a little on the slow side or she would have run it by a lawyer first, who would have promptly shit their pants and told her not to do it.  But that doesn't mean she deserved to die or absolves the local PD of their responsibility in this situation.
