OK I have a laptop with some very bad sectors on the HD and I can no longer get into Windows.  I need to clone the HD to a new HD through either the USB or eSata port.  I've tried a few but they all quit at the errors.  Any idea of a DOS based program that will allow me to copy the HD via USB or eSata and ignore the errors?  Oh and I need it to be free.

I don't know of any that will replicate through the errors. If there are corrupt sectors then the data it would need to fully clone could potentially be bad. I may be mistaken on this, but I just went through this at work, and we lost over a terrabyte of data when we had 2 HDD go out in the same raid pack....

If you can make it through a chkdsk using the surface scan option, then ghost will clone it.

Ran chkdsk several times.  So anyone know where I can "borrow" a copy of ghost?  Smiley

You could always download a trial copy of Acronis.  We've had good luck with it.  The only problem is it has spotty USB support.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I dunno...

I'm thinking probably someone named another way of saying....  CrimsonSunrise may be able to help you.

Just a guess however.
