Can be a reality for some.  But I've been able to have a normal life with having games as a part of how I unwind and relax for over 20 years now.  MMO's, while they can be a large time sink, are only as addictive as the person let's them be.  A lot of the reasons why the addictions occur, is because people were never given anything else to do, nor have the ability of self-control.  But I don't want to get into philosophical/psychological stuff.  Needless to say, this wouldn't have occurred, even had we had the technology, 40 years ago.  At least not to the same degree.
