I was like hmmm what is Alienware offering through Dell Premier OSU portal? Well I go to configure the most expensive rig I could, and the "6-core 990x OC 4.0ghz" was mistakenly subtracting $2200 rather than adding $2200. I freaked out and sent the order through right away to see if they would honor it, chose overnight shipping, and it showed up 5 days later. The thing hauls ass. Ended up being just under $3000 with a 5 year warranty with accidental damage protection as well. God bless price mistakes! Title: Re: The machine keeps you going...no seriously, it does! The DX monster is upgraded with Intel's OverDrive chip, which includes the coprocessor, which is far superior to the SX version. Protected Mode: Addresses 4GB physical and 64TB virtual memory; provides access to memory protection and 32-bit instructions. Virtual 8086 Mode: Protected Mode subset that runs a Real Mode application in a virtual machine. I can run windows on this thing not having to boot DOS. Games Mostly Microprose stuffs.. X-Com, Master of Magic, Master of Orion. New Sid Meier games run smooth on it... Civilization, Colonization. Dropped the old 5.25 floppy disc drive for the newer 3.5 disc drive. Title: Re: The machine keeps you going...no seriously, it does! (What's your rig like) Post by: Stugots on March 16, 2011, 02:47:22 PM LOL yeah, I have a shitload of old VHS tapes, they are currently being digitized and the cases/tapes being thrown out. Before the tape entirely goes bad. Surprised how bad they can get in 10 or 15 ....or20 years.
Title: Re: The machine keeps you going...no seriously, it does! (What's your rig like) Post by: Nightstalker on March 16, 2011, 03:47:24 PM Haha oh wow, look at all of them. What chu trying to open up a Bloxbuster or something.
look at em too... they got that white label taping on the side means they all custom recorded content. I bet you got alot of oldschool Silvia Saint, Traci Lords porn on them... maybe some Nina Hartley too :) Title: Re: The machine keeps you going...no seriously, it does! I ran a small VHS-DVD service a few years back, $5 a tape. After a few customers I started asking up front how old the tapes were, I refused to do anything older than 15yrs, they tend to look like shit, even if they've only been run 2-3 times Title: Re: The machine keeps you going...no seriously, it does! (What's your rig like) Post by: Stugots on March 16, 2011, 08:02:07 PM Yeah, and considering most of these ones were stored in the basement for the past 10 years surely doesn't help. But theres some memories on there that I would like to keep around no matter how bad the color, sound, and picture is.

I remember the first day I got it too. My mom made the mistake of inviting in some Mormons knockers to explain in detail the perks of Latter Day Saints. So while they were just a stone's throw away going on about Joseph Smith and his golden tablets, I couldn't help but feel I was indulging in sin as I cursed at and killed the fuck out of some alien assholes, whose existence has no explanation according to their religion. Damnit those little Chryssalids would turn your guys into aliens pissed me off. And yes, to pre-empt any smartasses to the punch line, the first day that I got and played X-Com was earlier this week. ::) Title: Re: The machine keeps you going...no seriously, it does! Mine works really well but like once a month the fucker will develop a slight lag between audio and video sync on live and DVR stuff. It will get progressively worse until I reboot the machine then all is fine. I'm running mine on a core2 1.86ghz with 2 gig ram so maybe the machine isn't beefy enough to handle the hd cable im trying to DVR but once I restart, it goes away for 2-3 weeks.

Sound right to you guys? The interwebs seem to think so. I might pull the trigger on this. BTW, on topic, my rig is a stock looking Dell XPS 410...very underwhelming in both looks and performance (old Core2 Duo 6600 with 2GB RAM... a RAID 0 array of 2x SATA drives though).
