Peter Graves Dies at age 83 (http://www.tvguide.com/News/Peter-Graves-Dies-1016263.aspx) Quote Graves made appearances in several movies, including Stalag 17 and The Night of the Hunter, before landing the lead in CBS' Mission: Impossible. From 1967 to 1973, Graves played the iconic role of James Phelps, and he later reprised his role for the revival in the late '80s. His work during the show's initial run earned him an Emmy nomination and a Golden Globe win. Graves turned to comedy in the cult classic film Airplane in 1980, starring opposite Leslie Nielson, Robert Stack and Lloyd Bridges.
