I use LogMeIN.

Works great, I've been given the task to troubleshoot everyone in my families PC issues, at it works fantasticly.

Problem is the application has to be running all the time and some Firewalls might need to be disabled.

We use it here at work to connect to some of our smaller customer's machiens and help them out with setting up outlook.

I use Hamachi which is by LogMeIn and would be nice if iPhone would allow background processes so you could use it for VPN.

Hamachi should work through anything.  Hamachi is amazing.  I use it for running torrents at home while I'm at work, sharing my home iTunes library with my work machine, and fixing family computers.  It makes for many fewer trips to Dayton for stupid shit.

Run it over port 80 if they're filtering outbound connections.  You don't have a proxy server for web traffic do you?

I use logmein to log into my work computer if I ever need to get anything from home.  It is fairly basic but it does the trick.
