Title: Codecs and windows update
Post by: Stugots on November 06, 2008, 05:21:22 AM
OK, I've been kind of downloading DVD rips from mininova.com, and before I had to reinstall my system, everything was great.  Good video, audio etc etc.

Now, the video looks like hell and sometimes the audio doesnt sync very well.  Also some vids wont play (already installed ac3 audio codec and divx).

Also, windows update won't work.  I try to click on it in my start menu and all that does is open MSN.com.  Anyone know what is up with the updater?  Broken?

Any help would be appreciated.

K-Lite Codec Pack.  You don't need the mega for what you're doing.

http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm

Make sure you DL the FULL version.

OK now, this fucking computer is pissing me off royally.

Firefox is always crashing, nothing updates

Is it possible the virus I got is still on here somewhere?  ( I did a quick format when I reinstalled windows).

Should I start over and do it again?

Yeah I actually bought xp pro a few years back (upgrade) and did that, but things still seem weird with my compy.

Especially firefox crashing, nothing updating and popups.

G Spot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Load up the movie with it and it will tell you weather u have the codec or not and let you know exactly what codecs you need for audio/vid

OK...so I just reinstalled windows again....Firefox is still crashing and windows update is still not working.

Sigh.

I tried installing that silverlight thing, thought it may have been the new windows update, but it needs windows update to ...update and it can't connect.

I fucking hate windows.

Maybe the new version of firefox is bad?

Hmmmmm, this is a very strange issue.  At this point, I'd rule out hardware failure.  Are you installing from a Windows XP Pro Upgrade disk, or am I misunderstanding you?  If that's the case, PM me your address and I'll get you fixed up right quick.

I just realized something.

When I repartitioned and formated the HD yesterday, it left 8mb unformatted and unpartitioned.  In other words, it hasnt been touched since this all began.
