Title: New Website Post by: Garenth on October 31, 2008, 02:15:17 PM Ok, our company just brought a new website up. This is supposed to be based on the same program that Nike uses for their website.
If anyone is bored and has the time I'd love some responses and feedback on the site. I know that there are pictures missing and not really sure why, our IT guy is conveniently on his way to Las Vegas for the weekend. If you have questions I'll try my best to answer them but I really don't know much about the runnings of the website. www.44tools.com Title: Re: New Website Post by: Stallionite on October 31, 2008, 04:27:22 PM Looks generic to me if thats what you are going for.
Your drop down for categories pops up midway, not down like "Departments" and "Customer Service" Your login link is to small, and why do you have a seperate option for "Your Account" and "Login" I vote you hire Thrun for consulting, he always finds the good pictures/avatars, etc.... I'm sure he'll have no problem spicing it up a bit. Hope that helps. Title: Re: New Website Post by: Garenth on October 31, 2008, 04:53:16 PM yes that does help thanks.
We aren't going for generic we're supposed to be cutting edge with the best shit out there. Unfortunately I don't have much faith in our IT guy to be able to get stuff done. I'm looking for feedback of any kind that I can compile and take and dump on him telling him to fix his shit so it looks like a great and easy to use website. Title: Re: New Website Post by: thrun on October 31, 2008, 06:32:07 PM My only two cents is that the browse departments doesn't seem like a good title for the box where you have the new and exciting and top picks links.
If you would like to pay my company money we will make your website purrtier, but I'm just the server monkey/systems guy around here. http://www.ihostsolutions.net/ Title: Re: New Website Post by: thrun on October 31, 2008, 06:33:30 PM P.S. Non contact laser thermometers are fun to play with in the server room.

Also, your options don't seem to be making much sense. If you are going to list Departments, then things like Customer Service should fall under Departments. Also, the less click throughs the customer has to do the better. You don't want them to have to go 5 clicks to get to their account page. I would say that if your IT guy is in charge of this and you don't have someone who focuses on eCommerce helping you out, then you should revisit your goal. An IT guy with little to no eCommerce experience is going to tread water at best and will get no where near getting you to the top. No offense to the IT guys out there, it's just that eCommerce is a tricky business. SEO rankings, meta tags, keywords, etc. Here's a link to a site that I get newsletters from and has some good articles to help you out. You can spend all the money in the world on a nice eCoomerce package, but it won't get you anywhere unless you know how to make it work for you.
