We have bullshitted about this before but it is about time it goes down. Damn it im getting to old! few more years and I wont be able to respect myself after a week long binge and knocking up a couple hookers. I want feedback on what dates would be best by everyone!

I was thinking this coming late spring early summer so those of us who take classes will be out, and all of us fulltime workers can ask off.

I'm in. I'm thinking early summer will be the best price-wise...spring time is peak season. If we stay on the strip, I've stayed at Luxor (not the best) and Caesars Palace (very nice, but pricey). Not stayed anywhere else. I've heard that Hard Rock is a nice place; it's off the strip so prices may be better.

As we get close, I'll start getting more solid details. I know that golf (at least for me) is one of those activities I will be definitely be planning ;)

Man, I'm trying to go to alaska in the spring and then a family vacation to beach the month after.  No vacation time or money would be left over for hookers and vegas.

Okarn and I have stayed at the Monte Carlo before for a spring break trip.  It was pretty nice and fairly close to centered on the strip.

We were there right before Paris opened.


Cowz and I will have to see if we can afford it as well.  We've been talking about hitting Vegas, but money talks louder than I do.

About how much would we be talking for this type of venture?

You guys will be supprised how affordable it is to stay on Fremont Street. I think i paid like 80 a night (might could do better with a group rate), its a lot of fun down there.
Its old school vegas, Golden Nugget, Benions (where they do the world series of poker),Glitter Gultch etc.. Hell the even have a 2 story Dave and Busters. You can buy beer on the street and its only about a 5 min cab ride to the big strip. The big name hotels are a lot more swanky, but if your budget minded, its worth checking into.
Just and idea.

That and the Golden Nugget has some of the best mac and cheese of all time in the buffet.  I mean, if you had one little shred of cheese you would legally have to change the name of the dish to cheese and mac.

I'd love to go to vegas again.  And yeah fremont street does have some fun places (best place to get drunk).  I've stayed at the flamingo and the tropicana.  Flamingo is fun but a little pricy, but AWESOME breakfast buffet.  Tropicana is for old people, don't do it its a trap.  But I'll stay anywhere, preferably places with a good roulette(sp?) table :)

One place we HAVE to go is this bar called Double Duece lounge....the drink du jour there is called ASS JUICE!!!

I get skeeved out by sketchy hotels.....I'll probably hit Mandalay Bay, Rio's or Venetian

I would make the drive less then 10 hours.

I don't know if I could swing this or not, I will have to see.

As for a place to stay check out the Westin, its two blocks off the strip and a little quiter and cheaper than the main strip hotels.  The beds rock though and your only two blocks from hitting the Flamingo and the strip.

Here's some rough estimates:

Plane: $190+ on Frontier (This varies A LOT depending on where you're flying from, when you're flying, etc.)
Hotel: I've stayed in places on the strip from $120/night (Luxor) to $250/night (Ceasars). You can stay a lot cheaper off the strip.
Meals: Buffets on the strip range from 10 bucks/person for breakfast; 15 bucks/person for lunch to 30/person for dinner. You can eat anywhere in your budget, really.
Drinks: Free if you're gambling
Gambling: Depends on what you play -- and where. If you plan to gamble A LOT, then I'd take $200-$500 bucks a day.

I plan on eating every meal at either In N Out, FatBurger or Lindo Michoacan

they are good huh? for years iv thought of "copying the taste" and opening a small chain in another state. the product will sell for sure, and its a easy to run simply business......the business model is available from many sources.  good to see Interest in other parts of the country.

We dont all have to stay in the same hotel but if we can all agree to it I'll call for group rates and see if we can get a discount as well as it will be a lot more fun that way :-)  Anyone who even might come at this point is welcome to put in there vote and ideas.

Oh and we are looking at June of 09 (unless someone has a better idea?) at this point plenty of time to save up some spending money....if your broke just bring 20 bucks and we will gamble our way up.

Yea, group rates would probably be much better than standard ones. I am just going to throw this out there and say that I will probably not be able to afford the venitian, ballagio, or anything else 200+ a night. Just sayin'.

Whoa, 3 nites?  I might be able to do this.  I don't know why, but I thought you all were talking about a week or something.  We could do this over a long weekend and I don't have to use all my vacation!  This might end up working out for me.

I have been to vegas 4 times, and i will tell you this, any more that 3 or 4 days and you will be broke as shit and ready to leave.
At least thats how it is for us po folks.

I've never been to vegas, I guess I'm still a noob in that respect.

I totally agree. 2 days and 3 nights is an ideal time, imo. Get in Thurs. night, leave Sunday mid-morning. All you east coast guys could leave after work and still get to Vegas around 7 p.m. I would steer away from the northern part of the strip (like Sahara, Stratosphere, etc.) It's just far from all the new things in the center/southern part of the strip. And old. TBH, the hotel Garenth suggested isn't far from the 'happenings' and would probalby go for under 100 bucks.

But for the people going for the first time, it's quite an experience to stay in a casino. You're gonna be up late and it's so much nicer to be able to stumble to your room than to walk down the street....

any longer than 3 days and you will be bored shitless if you arent a degenerate gambler or a dopey broads that aims mindlessly in the stores

Now this is a thread I can get behind.  Not sure if I will be able to make it, I have taken 4 trips to vegas overall, and only 1 with the missus....don't know if I can swing another one.

Hotel:  Sign up at Harrahs.com (I think) and become a gold preferred member.  It will allow you to get great deals.  I might go to AC or Vegas once a year, and this April I stayed at Bally's from Sunday - Wednesday and it cost me $0.00.  I will post a pic I took from my window....not too shabby.  Harrah's is the mothership - they have like 12 casino's in Vegas, all with room deals all the time and you dont have to spend big bucks to get ther perks.  They want you to come and spend money.

Airfare:  Southwest is great - I flew there from NC round trip for $250 in April.

Meals: who has time?

Gambling:  Craps - great odds but man it can go quick.  Best odds - Poker: you are not playing against the house - just playing against other morons.  Rule: if you cant spot the sucker at the table in the first 10 minutes, you're it.

Golf:  nothing to write home about.  I played there 2 years ago, and depending on when you are going it is freakin hot out there.  You have to get a cab there and back (pain in the ass and $$$), and to bring your clubs on a flight costs more also - you can rent clubs at most places, but if you are a golfer, thats make spending the cash on the course and everything else not worth it....better off staying in the casino and getting loaded.

Beer-no:  Best bang for your buck.  Step 1: find a Keno lounge.  Step 2: sit down and play $2 Keno tickets.  Step 3: order drinks from the waitress that comes by.  Step 4: rinse and repeat.  result: spending maybe $20 over the course of an hour or two and getting a good buzz, and possibly winning some but not losing too much.

the only time I went, I stayed 4 days and I didnt' think it was enough.  There's so much to see... and I don't gamble, or drink... much.

yA THIS IS JUST FOR THE GROUP RATE thing i want to call them once we decide on a hotel let em know how many people/rooms ect and for how long.  I will probably be staying a few extra nights even if it is just me and you gambling till dawn varg.

Or like you said if someone has or knows a travel agent that could hook us up let us know. There is a place here in town mom and pop think that do vacations I might stop in and talk to em just for the hell of it.

Varg - I am a total rewards member at Harrah's.  It does not cost anything to become one and you get special offers all the time.  I dont gamble much or often, and I got free rooms....I'm tellin ya, sign up and you can score some great deals.

I think 2 nights in Vegas just isnt enough....I would say fly in on Sunday morning, fly home on Wednesday....less crowded and much cheaper than a weekend....and you get all the same stuff goin on....I'm really hopin' Varg is not the rated PG guy we all hope is really gonna get it this time

Ya ill be staying a few extra days but it looks like the bulk of people are wanting a short Vaca which is cool we will just have to party non stop no sleeping in that 48ish hours :-D

I agree that it wouldn't be too crowded during the week, but I don't want to use too many vacation days if I don't have to.  My vote is leave on a friday morning and come back sunday evening.

I have been to the hoover dam, i swear to god it looks like tim burton designed it. Worth the trip if you never seen it. About a hour or so drive.

I will do the shuttle service too prolly, unless i win a ton of money then i want to rent that 1969 GTO from the muscle car rental place next to ESPN ZONE and drive it like a maniac (probably off of the hoover damn)
