IMO, NASA is very much underfunded, and does some pretty amazing things considering. The private sector needs to really start ramping it up though and get in on subsidizing spaceflight (see the airline industry beginnings from 70 years ago or so). I agree, the only shot we have is if we figure out how to teraform mars and fold space/use worm holes so that we can get to other galaxies. Eventually this ball of rock is toast. Humans need at least 3 or 4 planets in a few galaxies.
