Title: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Jim Tressel on November 12, 2007, 09:42:14 PM I have recently jumped on the podcast bandwagon after years of refusing to deal with anything that had the word "pod" in the name. The only reason I let down my guard is that my new gen 1 Zune will soon have a Podcast function allowing me to automagically update them to my device...wirelessly...which iPoops cannot do. Suck it Jobs.
Anyway, I thought I would toss up a thread so we could share our favorite slash least favorite podcasts with each other. As the Spanish say, variety is the brother of invention. Favorite #1: Car Talk (http://www.cartalk.com/) This is a fantastically funny show that I used to listen to as a kid on long road trips with the fam. It's 2 brothers from Boston who just happen to be mechanics. They babble and joke for an hour each week and take calls from people having car problems. Trust me, this is funny even if you're not that big into cars. Favorite #2: Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me! (http://www.npr.org/programs/waitwait/) I just found out about this show after picking up the book written by the host, Peter Sagal (The Book of Vice: Naughty Things and How to Do Them). This is a weekly news quiz show and is WAY more funny than that description sounds. Check this one out for sure. Weekly, well...roundup of all the cool new techie things in the world. If you stalk their site daily like I do, some of the stuff they talk about you will have already read about, but it's still a good listen while farming primals and dailies. Not-So-Favorite: Car and Driver Radio I tried this one for a couple weeks, but it's just too much. The host is kind of a misogynist, but not in the cute innocent way, but in the "oh my god how is he getting away with saying this shit" way. Plus they try (and fail) too hard to be funny. It's alright if you just want to hear a couple fat Americans babble on about how great every new Ford, GM product coming out is going to be. Not to mention, it's 4 hours long. So those are my regular haunts. How about you? Let's see what people are listening to. Besides, I still have 13gigs to fill up on my Zune and I need some new material! Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Troyer on November 13, 2007, 03:05:59 PM From a media professional's standpoint - F podcasts.
That being said, I'm sure these are fabulous and not created by professors that still think their computer has a cup holder... but I'm not bitter. Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Reddawn on November 13, 2007, 06:54:28 PM I used to listen to a WOW podcast and then Ricky Gervais with Carl Pilkington.....but not so much anymore.
Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Jim Tressel on July 31, 2008, 03:20:18 AM Update: I now have a weekly regimen of 15 podcasts that I listen to slash watch religiously. I recommend that you at least try them out to see if they're your flavor. I'm listing them alphabetically with a brief synopsis.
1.) AOTS: In Your Pants (video podcast) - sexy ladies talking about sex. very sexy. 2.) Coolness Roundup - See O.P. Basically 2 nerds talking about nerdy shit which usually ends up in a rant of some sort. 3.) Coolness Lounge - More casual followup show to Coolness Roundup. Even more ranting. 4.) Diggnation (video podcast) - Fucking. Awesome. Show. Alex Albrecht and Kevin Rose talking about the week's biggest stories from Digg while drinking and babbling about silly shit. This one you must try. 5.) Gadget PrOn (video podcast) - just the gadget pron section from Attack of the Show. Good for tech reviews on random shit. 6.) NPR: Car Talk - See O.P. This is a must listen, even if you're not a "car person" so to speak. 7.) NPR: Fresh Air - NPR interviews by Terry Gross with various people. Good for learning about very random stuff. Can be dry. 8.) NPR: Talk of the Nation - NPR news talk show with Neal Conan. Good for news. Can also be a bit dry if you don't like news. 9) NPR: Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me - See O.P. This is also a must try. Fucking HILARIOUS! 10.) Stephen Fry's Podgrams - Endlessly amusing, but not updated frequently enough. Stephen Fry is amazing. 11.) Systm - Great show covering lots of different diy shit like building robots, distilling liquor, building a FreeNAS box, etc. 12.) Tekzilla - Another techie show covering gadgets, computers, all sorts of shits. 13.) The Totally Rad Show (video podcast) - Another AWESOME show. Alex Albrecht, Dan Trachtenberg, and Jeff Cannata talk about movies, video games, comics, tv shows, etc. Definitely a must-try show as well. 14.) You Look Nice Today - LISTEN. TO. THIS. SHOW. Just do it. Self-described as a "journal of emotional hygiene", this show is just 3 guys randomly talking about whatever pops in their minds. It is unbelievably funny. 15.) The 1UP Show (video podcast) - This show is all-things video gaming. If you like to know what's going on in the gaming world, this is a show you should be watching already. Alright, so these are the ones I watch/listen to and I know I've said that several are "must-try" podcasts. Honestly, if I have to pick a top 5 out of these that I could make everyone check out, they would be Diggnation, Car Talk, Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me!, The Totally Rad Show, and You Look Nice Today. Trust me. Download them now. They're free. You have no excuses...or chance to survive. Make your time. Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Don't be a dick, give them a listen.
Jordan, Jesse, GO! (http://www.maximumfun.org/tags/jjgo) The Sound of Young America (http://www.maximumfun.org/shows/sound-young-america) Coyle and Sharpe (http://www.maximumfun.org/shows/coyle-and-sharpe) Never Not Funny (http://www.pardcast.com/) Paul and Storm Talk About Some Stuff for Five to Ten Minutes (On Average) (http://www.paulandstorm.com/) The 40 Year Old Boy (http://www.mikeschmidtcomedy.com/podcast.asp) The Merlin Show (http://www.themerlinshow.com) ...and because I can't say enough about it, despite the fact that their updates are less frequent than I'd like: You Look Nice Today (http://youlooknicetoday.com/). Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Jim Tressel on June 30, 2009, 10:04:59 PM And also because John Hodgman is fucking hilarious and appears alot as a guest on several of the aforementioned podcasts, here's his Radio and Television Correspondents dinner speech:
[yt=425,350]yW7OPByRGDY[/yt] Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Piquon on July 01, 2009, 02:31:57 AM They recently killed "Systm" in favor of a "tech section on Tekzilla". It wasn't very good past the first 5 episodes and once they brought in the robot guy it went down hill and became just him breaking Patrick Norton's balls all the time.
Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Jim Tressel on July 01, 2009, 04:43:28 AM To be honest, I haven't kept up with the video podcasts much lately. I'm about, how long have I had this new job?...oh yeah, about 9 months behind on all non-audio podcasts. If I can't listen to it in my car or while I'm at my desk, it piles up until itunes asks me if I want to keep downloading hundreds of gigs of unwatched files. At least it's nice enough to ask. Thank God for iTunes, right Red/Troyer?
Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Reddawn on July 01, 2009, 01:20:08 PM Album art view is for gay guys and women. I use Foobar and listen to my mp3s in it. I don't need a music organizer program like itunes...I have one it's called Windows Explorer.

http://ourbigdumbmouth.com/ It has been going for a few years, you can get it on iTunes. I am on most of the episodes after 170. It is a rotating cast of knuckle heads though. Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Piquon on October 07, 2010, 04:14:13 AM Every time Ryan Block says "Naw-kia" or "Neeche" on the GDGT podcast God kills a kitten.
Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: RedDawn on October 07, 2010, 12:35:48 PM I hate Ryan Block.....he is dating my future wife
Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Piquon on October 07, 2010, 01:55:57 PM Go for Felicia Day, they look just like each other and she comes with 100% less Ryan Block.
Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: BCBrent on October 08, 2010, 02:38:15 PM For those who are viewaskew fans, it seems all Kevin Smith does these days is the exact opposite of Silent Bob and talks nonstop on several podcasts a week. www.smodcast.com
Some of them can be hit and miss, but I've really dug one show they do called "Babble On", its him and some dude named Ralph Garman talking shit about hollywood. Sometimes its tabloid bullshit but their back and forth can be pretty hilarious. http://www.smodcast.com/babbleon/index.html. I was also listening to "Jay and Silent Bob Get Old" but now that the drug stories are over I don't know how much they'll have to talk about anymore. Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Stugots on October 08, 2010, 09:59:20 PM I had to check the year on these posts. Was that really Piquon?

Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: thrun on November 04, 2010, 02:26:53 PM Thanks man, I haven't been on in a month or two because of other commitments but I hope to get back to it this month. I need to bug Mike about it now that I think of it.
The Jeff/Bradford/Mike episodes are pretty much the classic line up as far as I am concerned though. Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Kastil on November 16, 2010, 01:07:34 AM Don't let the hate get you down Thrun. What does some geologist bastard from Australia know anyway. I mean Australia doesn't even have Geolo's

p.s. Thrun, don't miss the last part of page 2 for serious questions and concerns. Title: Re: sum itunes is for podcasting? Post by: Jim Tressel on November 30, 2010, 05:34:38 AM Some of the latest and most favorite additions to my podcast diet:
